Hello Fellow Dreamers,
While the daffodils are blooming sunshine and the crocuses are poking their purple faces up through the ground it is still winter and we can benefit from more hibernation and dreamtime. Find ways to slow down and nourish yourselves be it in your cave or your community. As the days grow longer and your roots sink deeper into the earth draw up the minerals and essence from the earth and let the sun warm, vitalize, and energize you. It is time to speak our cold hard truth with soft round words as we move through the north gate of the medicine wheel. Honor the tall standing ones, the crystal nation and the white hairs of wisdom as we move towards the light and clarity of spring. Perhaps you are making medicine pieces, writing poetry, reading or germinating seeds, may you find and grow the simple peace of living with purpose and an open heart. May your purpose show itself to you along with actions you can take to embody it.
Here are some offerings and dates for ceremonies throughout the year in case you wish to save any dates in your calendar. You’ll also see Zoe’s Light Language training this month in Celo. It is getting rave reviews from those who took it last time round.
Love, gratitude, peace, serenity and strength for the deepening of who we all are and who we are becoming as these times call us forth to heal ourselves, all our relations and the planet,
Miriam/Firebird

On this North Face of the Medicine Wheel we will honor the death and rebirth cycle at this Fire. We will call on the wisdom of the elders, the tall standing ones and all the beings of the North to help us to purify and Be it the death of something within us that we are ready to release or loved ones we have lost, the fire will receive the old and light the new spark within us. Take strength, courage, love, light, growth, resilience, clarity, innocence, playfulness, and joy away with you.
You will have the opportunity to release beliefs, grief, feelings, thoughts, relationships or anything else that is hampering your ability to be fully and completely who you are by offering them to the fire. We will witness each other as we make new agreements with spirit and dream our lives into being. We will feed the holies and ask their assistance in co-creating ourselves, our thoughts and our lives as we wish them to be. The choice is always yours!
“We spend our lives for-getting that living is for-giving.” Dean Fraser

Arapaho Little Boys and Girls Sweat LodgeSaturday March 10, 2012
This lodge will be poured by Miriam / Firebird in the tradition passed down to me by my beloved Elder Sharon Mitchell. This is a beautiful teaching lodge that has the strength and heat for those with experience in an inipi and the gentleness and ease for those who will join us for the first time (which is how it came to be known as the Little Boys and Girls Lodge). It is not a lodge specifically for children as some have asked but supervised children are welcome to attend. Feel free to call me with questions and to let me know if spirit is calling you to join us so I can let you know how to prepare.
Saturday March 10 We will light the fire at 9:00 am so come by 10:00 and plan to stay until we have returned the land and lodge to order and feasted well … into the late afternoon if you can. Let us bring festive food to welcome the turning of the sun with a beautiful potluck feast.
Workday Possibilities: Fridays March 2 or 9, Sunday afternoon Feb 26th or March 4th OR anytime the week before that you have some time. We can always use help with gathering wood and stones, raking, moving blankets, etc. If you have a truck and/or chain saw and want to help gather some wood between lodges please let me know so we can find times to work together, it is an ongoing need. The preparations are part of the ceremony and are a labor of love and communion with the land, the tall standing ones, the stone people, the water and enrich one’s experience of the ceremony greatly as we joyfully do this sacred work together.
Contact Miriam (919) 304-5754 or melieber@mebtel.net) to RSVP, find out protocols, directions and/or ask questions. I will send more information to those planning on attending as to how to prepare and what to bring. Driving directions are also available on my website www.drumsongsanctuary.com.

Hello Friends,
The month of January has completely gotten away from me as I stoke the fire and cook soup for the soul warming body and spirit. The ice beings stayed in our little wooded world for quite some time and have now left the landscape damp and muddy. Keeping the birdfeeders full and the woodstove going are my focus along with quiet contemplative time to work on medicine pieces and restore my roots. The sun is shining brightly on this brisk wintry afternoon stirring the urge to grow green and tall beneath the earth’s surface.
It is time to dream and imagine the world we wish to live in so we can come out of the gates this spring ready to create ourselves in that image once again. We are our thoughts and we have the power to be who we most wish to be. But first take this winter time to revel in who you are now, how you got to this point in time, what have you accomplished, how have you seeded your life and what has grown? Spend some quiet time just appreciating who you are and the loved ones in your life. If we can treat our families with loving kindness, generosity and honest communication then we are on the way to creating a world of people who are generous, honest and kind. Ram Dass once said, “If you think you are enlightened, go home for a week.” Let us practice peace- making with every breath we take and let it begin within. Here’s some of what I’m dreaming up for 2011, more to come...
In gratitude for you,
Miriam

Saturday April 2, 2011 poured by Sharon Mitchell
Please Arrive between 9:30 and 10:00 am
Bring yourselves and your prayers to this lodge. As the water is poured over the sacred stones the steam will carry our blessings to creator and assist us to purify. The name of this lodge refers to an Arapaho tradition that is gentler and more flexible than some sweat lodge traditions but does not mean that is intended only for children as I have been asked this question often. This is a lodge for people of all ages to come and bask in the womb of the earth mother and the gentle teachings of our grandmother Sharon.
Rev. Sharon Mitchell has been honored with the passing down of the tradition of this Arapaho Nation sweat lodge. She has been on the Red Road, living Native American Spirituality for over twenty years. Her experience will inspire you to discover the power that you carry within you to manifest Grandmother‘s Spirit in your personal life. Rev. Sharon is a Science of Mind Ordained Minister bringing together New Thought and Ancient Wisdom in a weekly circle. She creates sacred and traditional ceremonies in her business, Ceremonies From the Heart.
Zoe Allison is an Artist, Scholar, Science of Mind Ordained Minister and SHY Spiritual Human Yoga Healer and Certified Hypnotherapist. She is co-founder of Earth Green Medicine Lodge, a center for creating healthy spiritual-based mindful lives, located in the Western North Carolina mountains. Zoe has led
classes and workshops privately and at colleges and universities for 35 years and has traveled extensively throughout Mexico, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina visiting many of the sacred sites, working with the people and creating sacred ceremonies. She is the author of the Mayan Record Keeper, the Sacred Tzolkin, an Almanac of the Days, the Mayan Wave Tracker and a yearly calendar of the days of prophecy, and The Mayan Record Keeper cards

"The drum making workshop was and continues to be an amazing experience for me. I had no conscious experience with drums or drumming in this lifetime and was expecting a kind of fun and light "craft" workshop with a Native American flavor. Instead I found the ritual, hard work and reverence for what I was creating to be serious and profoundly meaningful and healing." - Patricia Dee, Astrina Living Art

2010 Fall Newsletter
Good Morning Friends,
Ahhhhh, the air is cool this morning and the ground dewy soft as the autumn slowly breathes itself into this smoldering land. We planted a fall garden yesterday and the little baby plants are raising their morning faces to the sun as their roots begin digging deep into the warm soil drawing up into themselves the earth’s essence. The promise of life lives in them and in us as we face each day with love in our hearts and in our actions. We do this one interaction at a time, drawing the essence of life up through our feet and releasing it on our breath, with our words, touch and thoughts. My teacher reminds me that our thoughts are our prayers so let us keep our thoughts full of kindness, grace, abundance, gratitude, clarity, forgiveness, strength and love for all beings, but especially ourselves at this season of returning our gaze inward.
As the hummingbirds prepare for their flight south and the butterflies drink the last summer nectar, the peppers, tomatoes, basil, zinnias, okra, and eggplants fill our harvest baskets let us remember what is lush and vibrant in our lives, let us be grateful for this green home.
Miriam
FIRE CEREMONIES
Friday September 17th 7:00-9:30ish Yom Kippur Day of At-one-ment
Sunday October 31st 5:00-8:00ish Day of the Dead Ancestors Altar
Sunday December 19th 4:00-7:00ish Winter Solstice
This ceremony will take place as Yom Kippur begins, a time of holding oneself lovingly accountable for one’s deeds and actions the prior year. This is a time to get in right relations with ourselves and Creator, to seek and offer forgiveness to ourselves and others. It is also the season of the Green Corn Ceremony, to give away our excess, to clean out our cupboards and keep only what we need. In the old ways the previous year’s grain was offered up in flames as the new grain is brought in for another year of grateful abundance. We recommit to live our lives freshly with respect, gratitude, renewed vigor and trust that we always have what we need.
Join us for a Fire Ceremony to release what no longer serves you. You will have the opportunity to shed beliefs, feelings, thoughts, relationships or anything else that is hampering your ability to be fully and completely who you are by offering them to the fire. We will witness each other as we make new agreements with ourselves and dream our lives into being. We will feed the holies and ask their assistance in recreating ourselves, our thoughts and our lives as we wish them to be. The choice is always ours!

Arapaho Little Boys and Girls Sweat Lodge Ceremony at Drumsong Sanctuary for the Soul led by Sharon Mitchell
Saturday, October 23 Sweat Lodge
Rev. Sharon is part of the Pastoral Team at the Mt. Area Hospice. She creates sacred and traditional ceremonies in her business, Ceremonies From the Heart.
Workday options: October 10, 16, or let me know when you are available to help with cutting, splitting and gathering wood and stones, raking, moving blankets, etc. If you have WOOD or STONES to offer, we are so grateful and they can be brought anytime and stacked. The preparations are part of the ceremony and are a labor of love and communion with the land, the tall standing ones, the stone people, the water and enrich one’s experience of the ceremony greatly as we joyfully do this sacred work together. Let me know when you can help and we’ll make a plan.
Please contact Miriam (919) 304-5754 or melieber@mebtel.net ) to RSVP, find out protocols, directions and ask questions. We will potluck FEAST together afterwards. I’ll send more information to those planning on attending as to how to prepare and what to bring. Directions are also available on my website www.drumsongsanctuary.com.

Wintry Greetings Everyone,
We’ve just returned from a hike to the river in the snow after awakening this morning to a landscape draped in white. Here in the Piedmont snow is a rare occurrence and invokes the magic and beauty of the north country. In the woods, by the river, two huge oak trees have come down and we stood in awe of their grandeur and size as they cleared a swath of forest with them. The ground must have been too saturated from all the rain and the last time the river jumped its banks flowing around the vast roots of these ancient tall standing ones. They have lain down their lives. We paid them homage. This is a good time to take into account all that is living and growing beneath the surface of the earth, readying itself for the sunshine of spring and all that flows within us beneath our own skin. With the crackle of the wood stove I’m enjoying this time of hibernation and quiet. Take the time to appreciate yourself today and the many connections to the life source running through your life. May we all lay down that which no longer serves us.
Please read through the offerings here at Drumsong and our extended community. I’m happy to answer any questions and to assist in anyway I can.
Peace, Love and Gratitude, Miriam

The Heart Beat of the Central Drum has been courting us with the words of our native mind and tongues through the whispering of the leafless trees this winter. This communication has been using the colors of the winter’s twilights and has been nudging the flanks of the deer, elk, buffalo, cows, and goats to come forth out of the hidden caves and recesses of our own cold tangled manes and tails.
From the place of your inner visionary and artist, now is the time to call in the memory Medicine of your drums and the strength your hearts desire. Whether it’s the airy feathers and flight of the small people, or the cold wash of the surf all are being invited to the ceremony of the “Brushing of The Quetzal’s Feathers” and to fly.
Visionary art for our Drums.

Autumn Colors

Greetings Everyone,
Aaahh, the fall colors are sublime. This weekend I‘ve been out walking in the rain and driving past trees on fire with orange, yellows and reds. We had some cool weather and more is on the way. I’ve been stacking wood and getting ready for the cold weather. I love the smell of the wood, feeling it in my hands, hearing the thud of logs landing atop one another, splitting kindling and feeling my muscles tighten as I grip the axe and feel it sink into the end of the wood. I love the focus required to use the tools and knowing that these tall standing ones have given their lives and will also heat our home. The roses and honeysuckle have lingering blooms and the little porch lizard has moved from the flower pot to the wood pile but still greets me as I come and go. The spiders continue to catch the last of the summer’s bug harvest in their shimmering webs.
I’m heading south for a Vision Quest Ceremony so we will miss the Day of the Dead Fire Ceremony here this year, but we’ll meet at the winter solstice around the fire circle (Dec. 20th). Prior to that we will have circles here at Drumsong, a Clan Mother’s circle with Robin Lynne, a sweat lodge (Dec 5th) with Sharon Mitchell, and then in January Will Rockingbear and Zoe Allison Rockingbear return to our area for teachings, healings and drummaking. Please read the newsletter for more information.
May the vibrancy of the autumn colors illuminate your heart and bring a smile to your face in this season of great gratitude.
Peace, Love and Gratitude,
Miriam

VISITING ELDERS
Arapaho Little Boys and Girls Sweat Lodge Ceremony
at Drumsong Sanctuary for the Soul led by Sharon Mitchell
Saturday December 5, 2009 10:00 am till……after the feast.
Rev. Sharon is part of the Pastoral Team at the Mt. Area Hospice. She creates sacred and traditional ceremonies in her business, Ceremonies From the Heart.
Workdays: Saturday November 21 and Friday December 4
or by letting me know when you are available to help with cutting, splitting and gathering wood and stones, raking, moving blankets, etc. The preparations are part of the ceremony and are a labor of love and communion with the land, the tall standing ones, the stone people, the water and enrich one’s experience of the ceremony greatly as we joyfully do this sacred work together.
Please contact Miriam (919) 304-5754 or melieber@mebtel.net ) to RSVP, find out protocols, directions and ask questions. I will send more information to those planning on attending as to how to prepare and what to bring. Directions are also available on my website http://www.drumsongsanctuary.com/.

A warm wintry greeting to you,
This season of going within has called me into the lodge to dream, rest and heal the deep within places with quiet time by the woodstove listening to the ancestors and guides. It is a time to work on medicine pieces and to hone our intentions for this New Year. Here at the lodge part of that is fresh paint and fresh perspective. The rains have blessed us pretty steadily replenishing our water tables and providing many gray soggy days to deepen the turn inward, to be rather than to do. I’m grateful for all the teachers in my life who remind me that joy is my birthright and that fear and anger can be transformed into trust and right action. I am learning from my teacher that generosity heals anger. I listen much these days to the chanting of the Dalai Lama and feel his commitment to non-violence in the face of great challenge as an inspiration to my life and practice.
In this time of political transition and wars that engender suffering it is a time to be the peace we pray for, to call it forth in our thoughts, actions and dreams. In a week’s time we will have a new president here and hopefully many positive changes in our nation and world. Let us each take responsibility for our own thoughts and actions, to speak our truth in loving and kind ways and hold ourselves accountable first and foremost for the healing we bring into our own lives and the lives of others. May we abundantly embody our medicine gifts and be blessed ten-fold in return for each act of kindness and generosity (to self and others) that we freely give. May this year bring us together in ceremony and healing.
With great gratitude for life,
Miriam 1/12/09

GODDESS AND GODS: TEACHINGS FOR THE MODERN NOBILITY
In our modern times we often look to others to see how to act; or at the very least reflect on how dysfunctional our personal families are. Do we see immature, weak or absent mothers and fathers? Are our kings and queens sufficiently present? Are the god and goddesses of our lives in disorder and chaos or are we showing up engaged and wholly (holy) present with our spiritual helpers. Join me in this exploration of the Goddess and Gods and how they might become more vivid, and more fully present. Knowing the shadow work in our psyches can always use some new light.
In our pre-patriarchal times, the earth as Mother was seen as the primary source of fertility but as our cultures have risen this modern time, the emphasis has shifted from the feminine as the source of fertility to the masculine. The ancient myths have used Biology, at least on the physical plane to be recognized as the union of the males and females, however on the cultural plane and the creation of civilization and technology, the mastery of the natural world, needs to employ both the Goddess and the Gods in recreating the mastery of our natural world. The primary expression for many peoples of the life-force, the libido, of the cosmos must be addressed with a new compassion of the life giving nurturing of ourselves as well as the mastery of our psyche. Allowing us to become the noble beings and create the new Earth.
This will be an empowering, delicious reference guide for modern day people working with gods and goddesses from many traditions in our daily lives. We will spend a year investigating the known strengths and weaknesses of the Gods and living our lives with assistance from the Gods. Perhaps you remember some of these from your past…Diana, Isis, Hathor, Ra, Osiris, Quetzacoaztl, Tzcatlipoca, Ceridiwen as well as others. Traditional ceremonies, messages, altars and teachings of the Gods will be employed to create an ongoing connection with our creators.

Rattle Making Ceremony with Zoe Allison
At Drumsong Sanctuary for the Soul
Saturday August 9, 2008
$75.oo (materials included)
9:00 am –1:00 pm
The ancient rattle gives us access to the unseen realms and has been used to dispel illness, dis-ease and also during life’s many celebrations. The sound of the rattle is magic and the ritual use of it’s energy can move us to create a deeper place of connection to ceremony within us. You will create a rattle and charge it with your own energy to assist you in calling in and working with your own helpers, guides, teachers and protectors. We will use simple techniques of sewing, painting and dreaming to create from our own inner wisdom a place where the magic of the rattle can assist us. Whether your rattle is made of hide or gourds, it will include the beings of the tree people, the four leggeds, the sacred plant people and all our relations. We will give thanks to all the beings and Mother Earth who in her abundance has given us refuge with our spirit relations who come to assist us.
Please BRING some or all of these sweet gifts from nature:
Sea shells, sea salt, seeds, beads, small round stones (corn seed size),
Any personal scissors, awls, needles, cutting boards you may prefer using.
